James Square Refectory

This is on-campus café and refectory for 104 covers and is a focal point of the James Square development.

It is also an interface between the public and the university. The building’s position within the square  creates a separation between the semi-private space, the residential functions and the pedestrian link route.

Many publicly accessible buildings in the city of Plymouth are highlighted with some copper cladding. We have used this to signal the public facing nature of the cafe within the University Campus.

James Square Refectory - UPP

This was the last development to be completed on the James Square site, which also included the Sir Francis Drake building, Rolle Building and St Mary Newman refurbishment.
