Status Completed September 2017

Willmore Iles Architects were employed from RIBA Stage 4 onwards, taking the project from planning through to construction on site.
This project had been through a challenging planning process, with a great deal of local opposition due to its location within an historic area of Cheltenham. As a result the project at Stage 4 was over budget.

We worked closely with the Contractor Client and the University to ensure that a high-quality scheme was delivered on time and to budget.

Concept design and planning by Feilden Clegg Bradley

The final scheme received good feedback from the planning officer:

‘In my opinion, the buildings sit comfortably within street scene and don’t loom over properties in Albert Road, as was feared by some local residents. The landscaping and feel of the internal courtyards is particularly successful and when they get more established, will lift the scheme further’

Lucy White – Planning Officer

Willmore Iles Architects were represented fantastically by Tim, who was always approachable and responsive in his service. Professional and available, I felt they had the knowledge required for developing in a sensitive environment such as a halls of residence. Philip Duggleby, U-Living
I would have no hesitation in promoting the use of WIA to any future clients and i look forward to working with the company again in the future. Richard Leedham, Asset manager, University of Gloucester
