The scheme consists of 107 student bedrooms configured in self-contained cluster flats, including shared bathrooms and a kitchen / living dining room. The flats varied in size from 4 bedroom to 8 bedroom.
The client’s brief was to retain and integrate as much of the historic fabric and existing features as possible into the final design. We provided a unique student living experience with the bedrooms housed within the original structure and new infill elements within the basement, undercroft and roof space.
Buildings that have inherent architectural value present great opportunities for creative re-use and conservation. The outcome and value of the Hosiery Factory came from our understanding of what the building needed and the opportunities it offered.
